What moves my seven-year-old neice, Molly, to sit down two mornings ago and write her surreal story? It was David Hay, a sociologist at Nottingham University, who compiled The Spirit of the Child, a brilliant vision into the inner life of children. He interviewed a whole age span of children about their inner world. Each was different, yet each possessed a vivid experience of the relationship with their Maker.

Here is Molly, in full creative flow, when up pops God. With a decisive message! (She had decided to seed her story using two Christmas present books: Beano Annual & The Children’s Bible)

FOR ONCE PIE FACE IS BRAINY

Denis, Nasha and Pie face where playing in the wooden tree house. Pie Face had a excellent idea. It was to play a trick on the factory maker. “I love you for once and all” shouted Denis. They noted down some things to do. “All we need is some prawn cocktail crisps and some frozen pees” barked Nasha.

A few minutes later Denis, Nasha and pie face where skating down the road on their cool skate boards of to the factory. All prepared a funny trick on the weird and intelligent factory maker. Once they had got there where a lot of complicated security systems.

Denis said to Nasha “did a hole Nasha” Nasha dug a deep hole that would take them all the way into the factory.”Silence” barked Nasha. “What did you do with the pees” “I left them in the tree house.” They escaped very quickly. A voice bellowed down. “Don’t trick anybody” God bellowed.

When they got back they didn’t even try to look for the peas. Meanwhile back at the sergeants house he was busy preparing a booby trap. “Right then. All I need to do is put this by the drain.” Denis walked straight passed. Thud! “Ha! Ha! Ha!” thought the sergeant watching carefully from his army house.
